La Llorona
"La Llorona" is an art-house horror film that combines the Mexican myth of the Weeping Woman with the controversial history of La Malinche to create an ancient killer whose power to kill has grown because of the killing and trafficking of innocent immigrant children.
(re)formation
There are 2.5 churches for every foster child in South Texas’ Region 8 foster system. With over 70% of Americans identifying as Christian, why are the poor getting poorer? Why are homeless youth still being sold for sex on suburban streets? Why are Christians remaining all but silent?
This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, whereby a disenchanted Martin Luther challenged and divided the Catholic Church over what he perceived to be a warped view of Jesus’ core message of Love. By following a group of modern-day, similarly disenfranchised, good Samaritans - who are renovating a transitional home for homeless youth - (re)Formation seeks to answer: Where is Jesus? Does the church need four walls to survive? Is it time for a new (re)formation?
Change the Vote
Theatre For Change partners with The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and KSAT-12 to host a town hall with mayoral candidates focused on positioning arts as an economic engine to revitalize San Antonio.
Trigger Warning
Theatre For Change takes on academic freedom, PTSD, campus carry and trigger warning policies in the original play by David Legore. The world premiere production is directed by Shelly Chance and features Stephen Ivey.
Rapunzel: Childhood Cancer Awareness Night
“Hair is Only Half the Story” Childhood Cancer Awareness Night was a partnership between Theatre For Change, San Antonio Rampage, the Magik Theatre's production of Rapunzel and the Little Fighter Foundation, an advocate and support group for families with children affected by cancer.
Region 8
Region 8 is a television pilot script, written by TLU Professor Shannon Ivey and television star Windell Middlebrooks, based on the true stories collected from hundreds of interviews from one of South Texas' worst foster regions. Region 8 is a powerful look into the lives of three people who are brave enough to endure the heartbreak, and rejoice in the triumphs of working as an advocate, a foster parent, and a CPS investigator in a system that is seemingly broken from the inside out.
ArteFest
ArteFest is a celebration of Día de los Muertos through Music, Film, Art, and Food. The festival featured the premiere of Theatre For Change short film La Llorona and a free concert by Flaco Jiménez.
